Good News in the Adoption World

I haven't posted in a while anything about adoption. The past three months, ever since May this year, things were too grim in the adoption world for me to blog. Today all families that I know of have passed court. These were those families that were caught up in the 'abandonment case' investigation by the Ethiopian courts. Today, finally, they passed. That means they will be travelling soon and bringing their children home, which will free up some space at the HOH (House of Hope, our agency's transition home where the children stay after being accepted by a family for a referral), which in return means ... possibly .... referrals coming in ... maybe even ours.

We have waited 6 months now officially for our little girl (ever since 6 Feb). We started out on place 101, with one hundred families in front of us. This week we are #56. Yes, we are advancing, but like Jalen would say: 'fast as a slow poke' ;) ...

Also, two families, The Salyers and The Hymans, whose blogs I've been following for months now, have finally gotten their baby girl referrals .... I'm very happy for them. They've waited over 12 months for their referral.

That's about it for now. We are getting ready to go on vacation again tomorrow to the beach to Florida. Shawn, Mykilie and Ms. Lisa will be joining us this time. Jalen's very excited about the trip .... he's been asking me for weeks now about the trip when Shawn and Mykilie will accompany us.

Today, unfortunately no pics, was Jalen's first day as a Volunteer Assistant, a very important job. He told every one today at the Animal Shelter where we were volunteering that he was my volunteer assistant. He loved being around the animals; he did extremely well with the cats. Here's what he said at one point in time while in the cat room petting and playing with the cats: "Mama, I can't take it anymore ... I can't stop loving Smokey!!!" Smoky was the cutest little kitten today, wanting so much love, rubs and cuddles from both me and Jalen .... so cute, and sooo little, and all she wanted to do was rub against us, cuddle and purr .... Jalen had a blast ... he was so polite and cute with everyone .... they all loved him .... he's such a flirt :)!!!!

Yay for him volunteering-what a great thing to get him started on! And, I'm so happy for all of the families, too! It's so great. I'm glad you're moving up the ranks and hopefully it won't be that much longer before you get your call! :) :)

P.S. I got your email and still haven't sat down to write a response. I'll do it when I have time. This weekend I won't!

No problem Amanda, don't worry. You keep such a detailed blog that I always know how you guys are doing and what you're up too.
I had to get him to volunteer, because he asked me what volunteering means (he heard it on Spongebob) so I thought this would be a great way to show him and to get him used to being around animals, as eventually we'd like to get a pet ... so it was great ... plus the Humane Society is very close to our home and the base, so perfect in every way.

Hi five to Jalen for being a great help!!! I'm glad to know that you guys are doing good and I'm also very happy that things are moving at a better pace in Ethiopia. I hope soon you get news about your daughter; those will be great news for you and also good news for us, since we are a few steps behind you. Quite an anxious wait isn't it. I wrote a letter "to my daughter" (see my blog) that shows a little of how I feel.
Have fun at the beach and stay in touch. G.L.

Hoping your right about the extra space leading to more and more referrals!
