Today Is The Day!!!!!

Leaving on a jet plane to bring Hanna home. Today is finally ..... THE DAY!!!
I feel similar to the day when Geno, my mother and I got up one day in Germany to get ready to make it to my C-section appointment. This is kinda like that, my mom-in-law is here, we got up knowing that when we leave today we'll come back one more ..... just like on the day Jalen was born .... it is quite surreal ..... exciting ..... wow, this is the moment we've been waiting for so long.
We're leaving Nana and Jalen behind to hold the fort down! Of course Lori, our neighbor and Jalen's "big sister" is here to help them out. We'll be driving to Atlanta, then flying to DC and then flying to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We'll be staying in the big room at Melkam (yeah, the one that has a bathroom in the room and you don't have to share ..... so I'm absoltely thrilled, because at first it didn't look like it was going to be available, but now it is!!!!) We went to the doctor yesterday and he loaded us up with Cipro, Malaria medication, Immodium, etc.... I feel like a mobil pharmacy ..... but hey, better have it and not need it, the need it and not have it!

Well, not sure what else to say .... we're excited .... please pray for us .... I'll try to update the blog of facebook if I can!

Travel Update

We found out today that our daughter's TB results came back negative. So we got the green light to book tickets and make arrangements. We're leaving this weekend. Nana, Jalen's grandma from St.Louis, is coming down to care for him while we're gone.
Still some things are pending .... but it's starting to feel more real by the day!!!

1. NVC has to confirm that they have received the latest I-171H. I sent them an email inquiring about that today.
2. Check with Susan Parr Travel to make sure bank increased daily debit limit so that they can charge us for the remaining amount still pending that didn't go through today.
3. Get oil change on car - we have to drive to ATL to get on the plane to DC and then from there to Addis Ababa - we're flying Ethiopian airlines. This late in the game we literally did not have a choice but to take whatever's available for whatever price.
4. There are other details I need to take care of but don't want to bore you with them :) ....

Also, I put in for leave today, and my Commander had me get a FP/AT (Force Protection/Anti-Terrorism) classified brief from the Intel folks on base. Very interesting ... lots of things I didn't know ... I don't know what's better: to be ignorant of what's going on around you so you won't be so worried, or to know everything terrorism wise going on and fear for your well-being while in the area. I still choose the second and am glad I have been briefed .... but it's scary ... to say the least! We'll just have to stay vigilant and have excellent situational awareness!

4 Months Today Since .......

First off, thank you so much to all of you who have sent your warm wishes, your words of encouragement and your prayers our way over the last few weeks and posts ... that really truly helps me through this process ... so thank you so much!!!!

Today marks exactly 4 months since we first saw our Nyla Hanna in picture. 4 Months!!! I wouldn't have thought that we would have to wait this long after referral to bring her home, with no rainy season and courts closing, no other "abandonment cases" pending .... it's just crazy ... why why why ... oh well, no use in pondering about the "why" right .... just looking forward and anticipating to hear GREAT news tomorrow that we can go and bring her home.

We are ready, her room's ready, her suitcase is packed, her brother's ready .... we've had many conversations he would start with me asking "Mama, when Hanna comes home ...... " etc.... We have been in this suspense/anxiety type of mode for quite a while ... and now it's time. I will pray hard tonight for good news and nothing but good news tomorrow of us being able to leave on Saturday ..... I wish I would've had more time to be happy and excited about our travel, but paperwork, and pending TB test results make it imossible to completely let go and enjoy the moment, because there's always this "what if - thought" in the back of my mind. Tonight I'll do my best to get a good night's sleep and have faith that tomorrow everything will be ok.

Hanna Video from The Hubbards + Travel Update

Today we received a video of Hanna from the Hubbard Family when they traveled to Ethiopia end of last month, February. Thank you so much Hubbards!!!! This is precious!

Our agency told us today that T., the in-country representative, took the children to get their TB test done yesterday and that we should hopefully have the results by tomorrow. Lots of praying!!! Lots of praying!!!!

I-171H .... It Came!!!!!!

Oh what agony this I-171H has caused us, but today it finally came. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon, since Geno got home first, he called me at work saying that we had no mail and that it did not come. In our neighborhood the mail usually comes around 2 o'clock. Well, needless to say, I was so distraught ... but I told myself, well maybe tomorrow. The officer at the USCIS did say I'll have it Saturday or Monday. Well, it was Monday and I still didn't have it so I sent him an email shortly after Geno called to let him know I don't have it. Granted, in Atlanta GA where our USCIS office is, it was already 4 o'clock in the afternoon so I knew I won't hear anything today. So I go about my business at work, still so dissappointed about this whole debacle, when Geno calls me at 4 o'clock letting me know the IT CAME. As he was leaving the house to pick up Jalen from school, he saw the mail truck just turning out of our cul-de-sac and leaving. He immediately checked the mailbox again, and sure enough there it was. Had Geno not happened to see the mail truck leave, we would've never known it came today until we would've checked the mail again tomorrow evening after coming back from work and Karate.

Oh, I'm so happy I got this paperwork in my hands now! Still, not out of the woods yet .... so still I cannot purchase the flight tickets, and I cannot give Nana (my mom-in-law) the green light to pack up and come down to Montgomery AL from St.Louis, MO, to care for Jalen while we're gone, because we are waiting for the TB results. If all goes well, we'll find out about the TB results hopefully tomorrow or at the latest Wednesday so that we can go ahead and leave on Saturday.

God, what a nerve-wrecking roller coaster ride this is!!! I'm staying hopeful and keeping my faith that it'll all work out well in the end. But I sure wish I'd know sooner than later. Everything is ready and packed up: Hanna's suitcase, the donation suitcase and the bedding/snack suitcase/cleaning supplies suitcase (gotta take our own bedding since a very bad experience with hives from sleeping in hotel rooms while TDY ... so I learned my lesson). Only thing left to pack is the last suitcase of Geno and my stuff, and our carry ons. Since I work everyday until Saturday, I have to do bits and pieces at a time ... but it's coming along!!!

Not having to pray for the I-171H anymore to get here is such a relief. But still more prayer needed for the TB results to come!!! Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers that we can make the 10 March visa appointment and be able to leave this Saturday!

Pictures from CHI, The Maeda & The Hubbard Family ****edited

Today I received this picture below of Nyla Hanna from our agency along with her most current height and weight measurements.

Height 103 cm (40.55inces)
Weight 17 kg (37.5lbs)

Then shortly after receiving the email from my agency, we received these two pictures and the video below from a traveling family (Thank You So Much Maeda Family) who also picked up their child at the House of Hope where Nyla Hanna is residing. I was sooo happy. This truly made my day!!! She looks wonderful, her cheeks have puffed up a little and she smiles .... oh, how this warms my heart ..... and it seems her molluscum has cleared up a bit, but has travelled elsewhere probably on the body. In either case, I already have two different creams (Crystacide and Zymaderm) to combat the molluscum, the first for anywhere on the body except close to eyes and mouth, and the second for anywhere on the body even on the face. So we'll have to see .... both creams had to be ordered from overseas and I'm so glad that they have already come so we can take them with us. Other than that .... isn't my daughter beautiful!!!!

Following is the update I received from the Maeda Family:

Here are two photos of your ADORABLE little girl! I only got two photos because it was hair-washing day when we were there! Right after we took these photos, the nannies had her run and get her comb and after taking her pony tail out she sat down with one of the nannies and got her hair washed! She knew exactly what to do and leaned way over so they could rinse out the soap in a little tub they had set up. She sat very patiently while they combed her hair out. I wish we could have videotaped it, but there were other children there getting their hair washed at the same time and we couldn't videotape them.

Hope you enjoy.

~Kim

Of course I enjoy and am happy about everything I receive of my little girl. I can't wait to be the one to do her hair. She just seems like such a mellow easy-going little girl - just like her Dada (he too is very mellow, laid-back, and very easy going ) .... well, we'll see if I am right soon enough (hopefully in 2 weeks) .... but for now, that's the impression I have of my little girl.

Then later tonight I received these two pictures below from The Hubbard Family who also picked up their son at the House of Hope where Hanna is. Thank you so much Hubbard Family!!!

This has been a wonderful day .... filled with updates, pictures and video. Thank you all so much!!!
